These grants are open to young researchers and prospective Ph.D. students in the Sub-Saharan Africa region who wish to pursue either their doctorate full-time in Germany (Research Grants – Doctoral Programmes in Germany; Kenyan-German Postgraduate Programme) or wish to conduct part of their research within their Ph.D. studies in Germany (One-Year Grants: 7-12 months; Bi—Nationally Supervised Doctoral Degrees: up to 24 months).
These scholarships, with exception of the Kenyan-German Postgraduate Programme, are open to all fields and topics. There is no age limit, but the previous degree should not be older than 6 years at the time of application.
The most important application requirements are a 10-15 page research proposal and the confirmation of supervision by a professor in Germany/ admission letter to a structured PhD programme at a German university.
